Cross-country skiing is a great pleasure on the ranch. You can ski along the quiet Ohio Creek, on the ranch’s back-country roads and trails, through the ranch’s meadows, or in your own back yard. Just northwest of the ranch is Mill Creek, a beautiful watershed where locals ski and snowshoe all winter long. Further away, Gunnison offers ski trails along the Gunnison river.

Snowshoeing, often with ski poles, is a different way to experience the snow. It’s fun to try both.

Crested Butte has a very active Nordic association that keeps dozens of trails open around the valley and runs ski races and expeditions. You can even ski or snowshoe to a yurt for a delicious gourmet dinner, cooked by a real Frenchwoman. There’s also a yearly race from Crested Butte to Aspen on skis.

And yes– some local bikers bike on the snow on fat tires.
